Vitamin D3 vs Vitamin D2. Is there a difference?
Vitamin D3?? Vitamin D2?? Does it matter which one we include in our diets? Is one better than the other?
We all know that vitamin D is an important part of maintaining a healthy immune system. But, these days it is harder and harder to keep these levels up due to sunscreen and other factors.
But, when we go to buy supplements, which should we look for?? Is there even a difference?
YES.
Vitamin D3 is far superior to Vitamin D2.
D3 benefits:
1. D3 (or cholecalciferol) is MUCH more easily absorbed by the body than D2 (ergocalciferol) making it easier for the body to use.
2. A vitamin D deficiency can cause the Parathyroid Gland to become overactive. Studies show that D3 supplements DID decrease the Parathyroid gland activity and brought it back down to normal. Vitamin D2 did NOT.
Most food supplements and some vitamin D supplements are made from D2. So, ask your doctor about your levels and which type is right for you.
