Find great cures right at home for fast poison ivy relief!

Most of us will need poison ivy relief at some point in our lives. Whether it is gardening in your yard or camping out in the woods, inevitably someone in the family will end-up with poison ivy.

My brother is so allergic to poison ivy that he would end-up with it several times a year. He even got it once from my grandparent's neighbors who were burning the leaves down the street! The itching would drive him crazy and it looked so painful!! In order to get rid of it, he would have to get cortizone shots.

Hopefully, no one in your family gets it that badly. But if they do, here are some great home remedies that will help take the itch out and help speed healing!

(Rememeber, always consult your doctor before self-medicating or self-diagnosing!)

Home Remedies for POISON IVY

1. Spray apple cider vinegar over the area. The vinegar will draw out the poison.

2. Cook oatmeal as normal. Once it has cooled for a few minutes, apply the paste to the area. It will dry hard. Leave for about a half an hour before washing off.

3. Take 3 tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of water and make a paste. Apply to poison ivy and allow to dry.

4. Apply full strength dishwashing liquid to the area and wash with cool water. The anti-grease agents will help heal the poison ivy.

5.Take plain white DIAL bar soap (MUST BE DIAL!) and put a heavy lather onto the area. Allow to dry uncovered. Repeat this 4 times a day.

6. To stop the itching- spray with hairspray!

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION...

The best way to prevent needing poison ivy relief is to not get it in the first place!

Learn what the plant looks like, wear gloves when gardening and long pants and shirts when in the woods.

Always remove clothing and wash them immediately when returning home from the outdoors in order to remove any poison ivy oil that may have gotten on your clothes.

Also, take a shower immediately with COLD water. (The cold water helps to keep the pores in your skin closed and not let the oil seep in.)
