Organic Fast Food Coming To A Neighborhood Near You?
Organic fast food may seem like a dream. But, it is closer than you think!
Restaurants these days are making it easier for those of us trying to live healthier lifestyles while on the go. Wendy's gives you a choice of fries, yogurt, side salad or baked potato as a side item in their combos with no extra cost. Even McDonald's is making it easier to give our children healthier foods by offering apple slices and milk in their Happy Meals!
But, what about the new great frontier in American eating, ORGANICS? Will there ever be organic fast food?
The New Frontier
Everywhere you look these days you find organic foods. They line the grocery store shelves! From cereals to toothpaste. Everyone is wanting in on the action. Even discount store, Wal-Mart, is selling it!
But, what about fast food?
In the past, there have been many challenges to having organic fast food including finding tasty recipes that don't use artificial preservatives, keeping the cost low to the consumer, and managing the demands of a fast food chain with seasonal crops and only a few organic growers and farmers.
But, this has begun to change. Organic farming is booming in this country. And as the supply of organic fruits, vegetables and meats are being met, the cost is going down.
This is good news for all of us, but especially for those on the forefront of this new frontier like O'Naturals. O'Naturals was started by Stonyfield Farms (the maker of many of the organic foods you buy at the grocery store.) O'Naturals currently has stores in the northeast and are hoping to expand to Kansas and Florida soon.
The west coast also has it's own version called "Organic To Go" and, of course, both Wild Oats and Whole Foods have eating areas in their stores.
As the trend catches on, hopefully the rest of us will see these types of restaurants popping-up soon in our neighborhoods!
Who knows, maybe someday even McDonald's will have an organic Big Mac!
