Mexoryl Sunscreen -What is it exactly?
Mexoryl sunscreen, it's everywhere these days! If you have read any fashion or health magazine lately, I'm sure you have heard the news about it.
It has been available in other parts of the world for years, but wasn't approved by the FDA until recently. Good news for us American girls!!
Here's the 411 on how it works:
UVA rays have a much longer wavelength than UVB rays, so they are able to go much deeper into the skin. And because they go so far below the skin, they can cause wrinkles and melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Normal sunscreen and sunblock do not protect against UVA rays. They only work to protect against UVB rays that cause sunburn, etc on the skin's surface.
Granted, some sun protection lotions do contain Oxybenzone, Titanium Dioxide and Parsol 1789 that block a small amount of UVA rays, but mexoryl is the only product on the market that can actually protect you from MOST of the UVA rays (and us from wrinkles and skin cancer!)
Currently, L'Oreal (La Roche-Posay) holds the U S patent. So, don't look at other brands and try and find mexoryl. You will be wasting your time!
You can find L'Oreal in your local store or online at loreal.com.
Be warned though, it will definitely cost you a bit more than your normal sunscreen!
